Regional issues make it necessary for the resumption of cooperation between Russia and Turkey.

“Unfortunately, after November 24, we are going through a difficult period in relations with Russia. After the collapse of the USSR they successfully developed, however, began to deteriorate even before the incident with the plane because of the policy that led the Russian leadership in recent years. Despite the sharp reaction of Moscow that it is difficult for us to understand regional issues make necessary the renewal of our cooperation, because Russia and Turkey are important countries in our geography. Expect your Russian colleagues will understand this and appreciate this need,” — said Erdogan, speaking at the Brookings institution in Washington during his visit to the United States.
