In Uzhgorod disrupted a rally in support of the Istanbul Convention on preventing violence against women. This was announced by activist Yarina Denisyuk in Facebook.

“Right-wing radicals in Uzhgorod disrupted a rally in support of women’s rights and ratification of the Istanbul Convention on combating violence. Shouted, stolen posters and disappeared. Especially “Carpathian Sich” and personally Taras Deyak. Bravo”, – the activist wrote.

According to Denisyuk, the radicals retreated from women activists only after the arrival of the police.

In turn, Taras Deyak, leader of the radical organization “Carpathian Sich” explained local media the actions of associates the fact that really the organization that holds meetings, protects the rights of LGBT people, not women. “In fact, women under the cover to protect gays” – he said, adding that their place with posters in the kitchen.

The organizers – the initiative Equality Lab along with Amnesty International Ukraine, and a Queer Home Uzhhorod. Activists believe that the government should establish an independent body to develop a comprehensive coordinated policy to counter domestic violence; to develop forms of cooperation with women’s NGOs, to collect and analyze statistical data.

Now, according to activists, the ratification of the Convention is blocked by the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, so the 8th of March in several cities of Ukraine to be held on such action.
