The appointment of the Chairman of Geninspection of the GPU, Vladimir Uvarov coincided with a quiet dismissal of the head of the working group of the Department of internal security of the GPU Peter Shkutyak. This was stated by the MP from the PPO Sergey Leschenko on air of TV channel “112 Ukraine”.
“With regard to mister Uvarova, I can only wish him success in exposing internal traitors… we may Have suspicions about what this contest was held specifically for people who are loyal to the attorney General… This appointment coincided with the dismissal of Mr. Shkutiak… he was fired very quietly, no one noticed. Major PR occasion ended with the man quietly left. What will happen to Mr. Uvarov, we will see his actions. It is not necessary to criticize it in advance. We have to give him a certain credibility… For real reform I would prefer to see in this position a person who never had anything to do with corrupt law enforcement bodies of Ukraine”, – Leshchenko said.
He also added that the President of Ukraine should not interfere in the work of the Prosecutor General.
“I listened to the President and surprised at his detailed knowledge about these processes, as the office was, by definition, should be an independent body. The best service that could make the President is not to interfere in the work of the GPU, not interested in her Affairs, and let them be that body which, by definition, is an independent representative of the state prosecution. These detailed transcripts, which he read out, indicate that he still considers the GPU as a personal chair, which he needs to retain influence. I think this is a very wrong approach,” – said the MP.
