Medvedchuk: Instead of European standards, Ukraine has received the strengthening power vertical

The leader of the public movement “the Ukrainian choice – the Right of the people” Viktor Medvedchuk said that the current government systematically violates the inalienable rights of Ukrainian citizens. About it reports a press-service of the organization.

“For three years the authorities told people that they are building a legal, democratic and free Ukraine. However, the facts tell a different story: “democratic” government systematically violates citizens ‘ inalienable rights: the right to life and security, right to freedom of thought, expression, conscience and religion, right to a fair trial and equality before the law, the right to participate in public Affairs…”, – says Medvedchuk.

According to the politician, in the worst situation there were inhabitants of Donbass.

“The government… has imposed social, economic, transport, food blockade against the residents of Eastern Ukraine. This caused a lot of complaints and accusations against eurodemocracy of power on the part of both Ukrainian and world community. However, neither the desperate situation of residents of Donbass, …no court decisions that recognized resolution of Cabinet of Ministers No. 595 illegal, nor outrage the international institutions, …did not affect… the discriminatory policy of Kiev against the inhabitants of the region” – outraged politician.

Medvedchuk believes that the government has used to close eye on human rights violations in Ukraine, and this applies to all regions of the country.

“Resonant crimes (Odessa, Mukachevo, Kiev) are not investigated, and the firefights and explosions in peace, far from war zone regions become commonplace. Ukrainians are deprived of the right to freedom of thought and speech, free expression of views and beliefs”, – said the politician.

In his opinion, despite the government’s statements about building a legal and democratic Ukraine, the people of long ago didn’t believe it.

“According to a survey conducted by Fund “Democratic initiatives” to them. Ilko Kucheriv and the company “Ukrainian sociology service”, more than a third ― 35,2% (!) ― respondents believe that from the time Euromaidan the situation with ensuring of human rights and fundamental freedoms… has deteriorated. Three years later, after the Euromaidan, it turned out that instead of democracy and European standards, Ukraine has received the strengthening of the power vertical. Instead the force of law in the country upheld the right of force. And this path inevitably leads to the legal nihilism and the dictatorship”, – said Viktor Medvedchuk.
