Migration service: Poroshenko issued a decree on Saakashvili

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko issued a decree that stripped the citizenship of Ukraine, ex-President of Georgia, former head of the Odessa regional state administration Mikhail Saakashvili. This was reported on the website of the State migration service of Ukraine.

“The President of Ukraine issued a decree on the loss of citizenship of Ukraine… Materials according to Saakashvili the General Prosecutor of Ukraine, elaborated by the State migration service of Ukraine, directed to the Commission on citizenship issues under the President of Ukraine and duly considered at the Commission meeting. According to the Constitution of Ukraine the President of Ukraine adopts a decision on loss of citizenship Ukraine on the basis of the conclusions of the Commission on citizenship issues”, – stated in the message.

In the migration service explained that the termination of citizenship of Ukraine in cases provided for by law is a constitutional norm.

Grounds for loss of citizenship of Ukraine listed in article 19 of the law of Ukraine On citizenship of Ukraine. Among them – the voluntary acquisition of citizen of Ukraine of citizenship of another state, if at the time of such attainment he had reached the age of majority or the acquisition of citizenship of Ukraine on the basis of article 9 of this law as a result of deception, the deliberate submission of false information or false documents.

But on 7 November 2016 Saakashvili announced the resignation of the head of the Odessa regional state administration due to the fact that “tired of the constant deception and corruption”, and promised “to begin a new phase of struggle.”
