Parliament intends to increase the percentage of Ukrainian language on TV

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported the first reading of bill No. 5313 to increase the quota of the Ukrainian language of audiovisual media. Voted 244 people’s deputies.

During the discussion, the representative of the “Samopomich” Irina Podolyak said that her political force will support the bill in the first reading. According to her, it is unacceptable to amend the law Kolesnichenko-Kivalov, because that way it is legalized.

The radical party also called for support of the bill in the first reading. This was said Igor Mosiychuk.

PPB also supported the bill to increase the Ukrainian language on television, however, suggested the introduction of a 100% state language on TV.

The only political force that spoke out against the “Opposition bloc”, calling the initiative “early”.

The people’s Deputy from BPP, member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on issues of minority Refat Chubarov called for the introduction of rules that would protect the Crimean Tatar language.

“Since today, the project is considered to be voted in first reading, I urge the Committee today to create a group of members of Parliament, that we prescribe rules which would have made impossible the destruction, reduction, the Crimean Tatar language in the electronic media. This working group should also develop changes on the approved us 16 June last year, the law that regulates broadcasting,” – said Chubarov.

Chairman of the Committee on freedom of speech and information policy Victoria syumar assured that the group will be created, and the bill is finalized.
