Poland challenged the decision of the European Commission on the Opal gas pipeline

Польша оспорила решение ЕК по газопроводу Opal

Poland challenged in EU court the European Commission’s decision on access for Gazprom to the Opal gas pipeline.

The government of Poland filed a complaint with the European court of justice on decision of European Commission to improve access for Gazprom to the Opal gas pipeline. About this informed the official representative of the Polish foreign Ministry Joanna Wajda, reports RIA Novosti.

The Polish government is in favour of the suspension of the decision. According to Warsaw, the decision of the EC leads to a concentration on one source of supply, which is contrary to the principle of diversification and threatens to breach or termination of gas supply.

“In the opinion of Poland, such a situation threatens the security of gas supplies to the EU, in particular in the region of Central Europe. Creates serious risks for security of gas supplies to Poland through reliance on one source supplies from Russia,” said Wajda.

Earlier, the presidents of Ukraine and Poland in a joint statement stressed that the decision of the European Commission on the Opal gas pipeline undermines energy security strategy of the EU.

The Opal pipeline in Germany is supplied Russian gas coming to Europe via the sea pipeline Nord stream, but due to the limitations of European regulators pipe loaded only halfway. Gazprom is not one year have sought to obtain full access to the capacity of the pipe, however, the EC earlier this was denied.

Ukraine can begin to court because of the decision of the EC on Opal
