In Ukraine honored the memory of victims of Holodomor of 1932-33.
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed, which, he instructed the foreign Ministry to continue work on recognition by the international community, foreign States and international organizations of the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people.
About this Poroshenko said during a speech on the Day of memory of victims of Holodomor in Ukraine, the press service of the President.
The head of state reminded that the day marks exactly ten years since the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of the law, which the Holodomor of 1932-1933 is recognized as genocide.
“This assessment of the tragic events supports the vast majority of Ukrainians. Dozens of countries qualify the crime of the totalitarian regime as a genocide”, – he stressed and added that at the time, as an MP, also voted for this law.
“Advocates denial of the Holodomor is highly concentrated in one geographical point. They hide from the scientists, the archival documents and the relevant court banned the works of Ukrainian authors. You can, of course, to clean up from books about the famine suffering, the Library of Ukrainian literature in Moscow. But the history of the famine to strike is impossible!” – as the President said.
He said that the genocide of 1932-1933 was a direct consequence of the loss of statehood in the twenties.
Recall that in 2006, the Verkhovna Rada recognized the Holodomor 1932-1933 genocide against the Ukrainian people, in which, according to various estimates, were killed from 3 to 7 million people.
