Former Prime Minister of France Francois Fillon won the primaries for conservatives. Sociologists point to his possible victory in the presidential election in the country, which will be held in the spring of 2017. Increase pressure on the unemployed and to raise VAT
Fillon plans to abolish the 35-hour working week. Civil servants are, in his opinion, should work 39 hours per week, and in the private sector this rule shall be determined by agreement between the employer and the Union. The politician plans to increase pressure on the unemployed to agree to offer them employment options. He also eventually wants to cut unemployment benefits. In addition, he advocates tax cuts for businesses and the abolition of the special tax for owners of big capital. The value added tax Fillon is going to increase by two percentage points to 22 percent.

To reduce the national debt, the politician plans to raise the retirement age from 62 to 65 years. Fillon also wants to reduce government spending by 100 billion euros over five years and reduce the number of civil servants by 500 thousand people, accounting for 10 percent of the total.

Additional funds for security and quotas on migrants
Fillon is going to provide the police and the justice authorities an additional 12 billion euros. The father of five children Fillon is going to actively engage in family policies, in particular to restrict the rights of same-sex couples to adopt children. He’s a Catholic and opposed to abortion, but promises not to change the law which guarantees women the right to abortion. The politician also intends to ban surrogacy for heterosexual couples.

Foreign policy: closer ties with Russia, but the US is more important
Mr Fillon is in favor of rapprochement with Russia and the lifting of sanctions against her. However, he stressed that relations with the US is important, specifies AFP. According to Fillon, the policy of sanctions of the West against Moscow, “failed”, without giving anything except the bankruptcy of European farmers”. He also stated about the responsibility of Kiev for the conflict in the East of Ukraine and stressed that he is ready to cooperate with Russia on Syria. In addition, Fillon called for cooperation with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the fight against “Islamic state”.
