Economic sanctions of EU against Russia could be extended earlier than planned – until mid-December. This was stated by the President of the European Council Donald Tusk at a press conference on the results of the summit Ukraine-EU in Brussels, reports UKRINFORM.
“I hope, and that’s a little more than the hope that we will decide to extend sanctions before the European Council meeting in December,” – said Tusk.
He recalled the clear position of the EU that sanctions against Russia are bound to fully implement the Minsk agreements, which were adopted by the European Council in March 2015.
“And it remains in force,” – said Tusk.
Earlier, EU leaders were planning to take a fundamental political decision to extend sanctions against Russia at the European Council meeting 15-16 December. The effect of the sanctions formally expires on 31 January 2017.
