In the United States today celebrate one of the most important holidays – thanksgiving. This is one of the most beloved family holidays in America, it is traditionally celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November and in Canada on the second Monday of October. His religious roots have long been forgotten, and now it has become a family celebration.

Thanksgiving prayers and special ceremonies after harvest, common among almost all religions. The history of the American thanksgiving is rooted in English traditions. It is believed that arrived in 1620 settlers from England established this tradition. The first documented data on holiday refer to 1621, when the Plymouth current Massachusetts in connection with a good harvest organized a large meal, which became the first thanksgiving.

To celebrate thanksgiving as a national holiday offered the first US President George Washington. In 1941, Congress voted that thanksgiving was celebrated on the last Thursday of November as a national holiday.

The holiday tradition is very simple: several generations of one family gather at the house of elders for a celebration lunch. During dinner, those present hold hands and say the words of thanksgiving.

The main dish of the holiday – stuffed Turkey with cranberry sauce. In addition, served pumpkin pie. The table is usually decorated with young pumpkins.
