The court’s decision regarding the return to Ukraine of the exhibition “Crimea. Golden island in the Black sea” once again confirms that Ukraine adheres to all international law. This was announced by the Minister of culture of Ukraine Evgeny nisoc, reports the press service of the Ministry.

“The court’s decision regarding the return to Ukraine of the exhibition “Crimea. Golden island in the Black sea” once again confirms that our position is fair, honest and transparent, and most importantly – Ukraine adheres to all international law. The decision of the court based on the provisions of the Convention on the means of prohibiting and preventing the illicit import, export and transfer of ownership of cultural property (1970), which confirms the supremacy of international legal norms”, – said the Minister of culture Yevhen Nyshchuk.

The official added: “Perhaps we will still struggle for the return to Ukraine of cultural values. But we are ready to defend the interests of the state and the people, their right to cultural heritage, which must be returned to the Museum Fund of the state. And I am convinced that eventually they will return to their native Crimean museums, but Ukrainian of the Crimea.”

We will remind, today the district court of Amsterdam decided to return to Ukraine collection of Scythian gold, brought to the exhibition prior to the annexation of Crimea by Russia. The court ruled that the Crimea is not a sovereign state and can not claim to treasure as a cultural heritage.

At the same time Ukraine needs to compensate for the cost of storage of the collection – about 100 thousand euros. Museums annexed Crimea intend to appeal the court’s decision.
