The European Commissioner for justice, consumers and gender equality Vera jourova urged Russia on Wednesday, March 1, to repeal the law on decriminalization of the battery, calling it a “regressive step”, reports “RIA Novosti”.
“We call on the institutions of Russian authorities to repeal the law and fully adhere to international standards of human rights,” said jourova, speaking in Brussels at the European Parliament session.
We will remind, the State Duma adopted the law on decriminalization of the battery 27 Jan. Beatings inflicted by family members for the first time shall not be considered criminal, and administrative plane. In the case of repeat during the year, such actions will be treated as a criminal case. Beating the new law is defined as actions that cause physical pain but do not entail short-term health and disability.

We will note, Russian President Vladimir Putin on 7 February signed a law on decriminalization of the battery.
