The issue of sanctions against the Russian Federation, as well as the introduction of visa-free regime with Ukraine, it becomes a matter of honour for the European Union. About it in Brussels said the first Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Irina Gerashchenko.
“The EU understands that Russia has not fulfilled a single point of the Minsk agreements. And I understand that today the Ukrainian side, which is very important for Ukrainians, speaking a consistent partner that fulfills its commitments, the European partner, who works in order to demonstrate the European principles. This means that in the country are very serious reforms and the changes the Ukrainian society has changed… We are talking about what we are thankful Juncker when he says that before the end of the year the question of visa-free regime needs to be solved. But it is a responsibility and a matter of honor European side,” she said.
Note, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko hopes that the EU will confirm position on sanctions against the Russian Federation before the December summit.
Recall that EU sanctions against Russia over aggression in the Donbas, are valid until 31 January 2017, and almost certainly will be extended for another six months, until Aug. At the same time, Ukraine stands for the extension of sanctions once a year, not six months.
