Gontareva accused of populist politicians in the rocking “fragile macroeconomic stability.”
The prolongation of the pause in international financial support for Ukraine will lead to a loss of reserves and threaten macroeconomic stability. This was stated by the head of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Valeria Gontareva.
“If we continue cooperation (with the IMF – ed.) in early next year, it is not so scary, but if we don’t do that… I want everyone to understand that if today we have reserves of $15.5 billion, we start to lose reserves each day, – said Gontareva at a meeting of the NBU Council. – The fragile stability, when we live more than one and a half years in a stable macroeconomic situation, we will begin to lose every day.”
She explained that next year, the national Bank predicts a negative balance of current account of payment balance of $2.9 billion in Addition, the country will have to pay more than $2.5 billion on account of debt service and to repay $1 billion of the first tranche of stand-by credit received from the IMF in 2014. Gontareva reminded that while the baseline forecast assumes the receipt from the IMF in 2017, four tranches totaling $5.4 billion.
“So flirting with populism and political insinuations – they are rocking our government and macroeconomic stability”, – said the head of the NBU.
She singled out the destructive position of leader of the Batkivshchyna party Yulia Tymoshenko, again accusing it of giving fictitious figures.
“It goes way beyond that, and I hope these politicians will answer before the law for all their fraudulent actions and actions for rocking our fragile macroeconomic stability”, – said Gontareva.
