In turn, the head of the Russian foreign Ministry said that Moscow and Washington can resume direct consultations on the Ukrainian question.
Ukraine will remain an obstacle to improved relations between the US and Russia to the full implementation of the latest Minsk agreements.
This was stated by the head of the state Department Rex Tillerson at a press conference in Moscow after meeting with Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
“While progress on the Minsk agreement is not reached, the situation in Ukraine will remain an obstacle to improved relations between the U.S. and Russia,” he said.
The Secretary of state noted that Russia may affect the reduction of violence and the withdrawal of troops in the Donbas.
“Russia can make progress in the implementation of (the Minsk agreement) by de-escalation of violence and to take measures for withdrawal of armed forces and heavy weapons to the OSCE observers could do their role,” said Tillerson.
In turn, Lavrov said that Russia and the US could resume direct consultations on the Ukrainian question.
“We have felt the interest of the current administration to continue bilateral contacts on the subject in order to help find practical ways to implement fully the Minsk agreements,” – said the Russian Minister.
We will remind that yesterday the President Petro Poroshenko spoke to Tillerson on the phone. According to him, the Secretary of state promised not to allow any batch of the agreements on the settlement of the situation in Ukraine and Syria.
As reported by Reuters, the Kremlin met Tillerson “nejdanno hostile”. However, Moscow has declared its readiness to restore the Memorandum on Syria, terminated after the missile strike USA
