The document was signed for the future Interconnector Poland-Ukraine.

Ukrainian and Polish operators of gas transportation systems (GTS), Ukrtransgaz and Gaz-system S. A. signed an agreement on the rules of engagement for future Interconnector with the intent of connecting systems. This was reported by the press service of Ukrtransgaz on Thursday, December 8.

The planned gas Interconnector Poland-Ukraine will include the construction of the gas pipeline, Germanovichi – Polish-Ukrainian border, the total length of about 1.5 km on the territory of Poland and Bilche-Volytsya – Ukrainian-Polish border with an approximate length of 110 km on the territory of Ukraine.

The parties expect that the project will be completed by 2020.

The main purpose of the combined Polish and Ukrainian gas transport system to increase gas imports from the EU through Poland and to ensure the possibility of storing the European gas in Ukrainian storage facilities.

The project is expected to give the ability to pump from Poland to Ukraine of up to 8 billion cubic meters of gas per year, and from Ukraine in the EU – up to 7 billion cubic meters per year. Now, the maximum technical capacity of the gas supplies from Poland to Ukraine amounts to 1.5 billion cubic meters per year.

The project is part of the North-South gas corridor, which will connect the LNG terminal in Swinoujscie with the countries of Central and Western Europe.

Note the head of Board of Naftogaz Andrey Kobelev believes that the cost of Ukraine’s GTS will be reduced to five times in the case of a complete termination of Russian gas transit to Europe
