Members of the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe from Ukraine, Denmark and Poland have condemned the recent visit by the President of the Assembly and members of the EP along with a delegation of Russian deputies in Syria. A statement by the representatives of these countries has published on his page in Facebook the head of the Ukrainian delegation Volodymyr Ariev.

“We, the undersigned, members of the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Express our deep concern about media reports on a recent visit to Syria by the delegation, such as “headed by the President of the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, a Spanish Senator, Mr Pedro Agramunt” and several other members of the European Parliament, in the company of influential persons of the State Duma of the Russian Federation”, – said in a statement.

In this regard, the delegation recalled the PACE Resolution 1878 (2012), recommendation 2026 (2013) on the situation in Syria and the recent resolution 2138 (2016) and recommendation 2096 (2016) on the situation in Aleppo:

“In this regard, we recall the PACE Resolution 1878 (2012), Recommendation 2026 (2013) on the situation in Syria and the recent resolution 2138 (2016) and Recommendation 2096 (2016) on the situation in Aleppo, which strongly condemn the gross and systematic violations of human rights, the increasing number of crimes against humanity committed by Syrian military and national security forces, such as the use of force against civilians, executions, killing and persecution of protesters, torture and sexual violence, including against children. The Assembly equally condemns the attack on civilians and other crimes committed in Aleppo, including the tragic situation of children who have not received humanitarian assistance of the UN, the situation in which a lot of schools and hospitals affected by the Russian and Syrian aerial bombardment in which many, including children, were killed,” – said in a statement.

The delegations of these countries in the PACE stated that completely separated itself from the aforementioned visit to Syria and urge the Parliamentary Assembly to publicly and unambiguously notify the public that this visit was not sanctioned by the parliamentary Assembly:

“We also regret that attempts to use the visit as a message of support to the Syrian dictatorship, which we consider responsible for war crimes. We firmly believe that against the background of allegations of corruption in the parliamentary Assembly, the visit by the Russian parliamentarians, under mysterious from a financial point of view, circumstances, and presented under the auspices of PACE, could further hurt the credibility of the Assembly and undermine the confidence of European citizens in this pan-European inter-parliamentary forum,” the statement reads.

The representative of Ukraine is the head of the delegation Volodymyr Ariev, Denmark – Chairman of the delegation Michael Aastrup Jensen, Poland – head of delegation włodzimierz bernacki.

It is also added that the Declaration remains open for accession by other delegations in the PACE.

We will note, earlier the Russian media reported that in Syria there has arrived delegation of the Russian deputies and deputies of the PACE along with Agramunt.

The Chairman of the Permanent delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Volodymyr Aryev, said that delegations from other countries shocked by the visit of the President of PACE Pedro Agramunt in Syria.
