Ukraine in the UN security Council called for the strengthening of the international system of counter proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

This was stated by Deputy foreign Minister Sergey Kyslytsya on December 15 at the public debate “Preventing catastrophe: the global agenda to stop the spread of weapons of mass destruction by non-state actors”.

“Considering the unstable situation in many regions of the world, increases the risk of use of chemical, biological and nuclear materials as weapons by non-state groups, including terrorists. In this regard, Ukraine stands for the application of urgent measures with the aim of strengthening the existing international system of counter proliferation of weapons of mass destruction” – quoted statement by the Deputy Minister, the press service of the permanent mission of Ukraine to the UN.

It is reported that in the debates of the UN security Council approved a resolution 2325, one of the sponsors of which is Ukraine. The document in particular envisages the improvement of the mechanism of implementation of resolution 1540, taking into account new risks and threats in the field of nonproliferation of weapons of mass destruction, as well as establishing effective partnerships between government and the private sector with the aim of fulfilling the provisions of resolution 1540.

We will remind, in February, the chairmanship in the UN security Council will move to Ukraine.
