Ukrainian schoolboy “took the gold” at the Olympics in the USA with a device that will help to clear the water from spilled oil, the press service of the Ministry of education.

The pupil of Small Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Mykola Ivanchenko presented the invention at the Genius Olympiad, held in Oswego.

He said that it is a hydrophobic adsorbent will collect the oil into clumps, which can be picked up from the reservoir by any mechanical means. This allows you to save both water and oil.

Earlier it was reported that Ukrainians entered the TOP 25 of the most ambitious annual international hackathon NASA Space Apps Challenge 2017.

Genius Olympiad is one of the largest science contests, in which, besides the U.S., participating students from around the world. This year in the Olympics competed more than 750 participants.

The Olympiad promotes a global understanding of environmental problems and achievement of sustainability through basic science, art, creative writing, engineering, design and business development.
