In 2016 in eight countries in the Central African Republic, Chad, Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan, Syria and Ukraine – vaccinations against diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis has received less than 50 percent of children. This is stated in the who report, reports UNIAN.

The experts of the UN is extremely concerned about this situation. They reminded all States and parents that vaccination is safe, effective and cheap way to protect children from dangerous infectious diseases.

“The majority of children have not received vaccinations, were outside the health system,” said the Director of the Department of immunization, vaccines and Biologicals who Jean-Marie Okwo-Bela.

“These children in most cases do not have access to other basic health services. If we intend to raise the bar in the immunization on a worldwide scale, we need to make health services use in the first place, those who are now denied access to them”, – said the representative of the who.

The UN experts recalled that today, thanks to immunization are saved each year from death due to diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough and measles approximately 2-3 million children per year.

Last year almost 13 million infants were not protected from dangerous infections

In 2016, 12, 9 million babies worldwide – one in ten babies – had not received any vaccinations. This means that these children are not protected from many infectious diseases that can be fatal in early childhood.
