Amateur Boxing remained under the threat of exclusion from the Olympic family.

In Moscow at the Congress of the International Association of Amateur Boxing (AIBA) has elected a new President of the organization, a victory which was won by Uzbek Gafur Rakhimov. His candidacy was supported by 86 delegates from 137.

In addition to Rakhimov on a post of the President claimed the head of the Asian Confederation Boxing Serik Konakbayev Kazakhstan.

In the near future we can expect the reaction of the IOC to be elected Rakhimov, as previously, the IOC recommended Rakhimov to run for the office of President of AIBA for that functionary is held in criminal lists of the FBI. The IOC even threatened with the exception of Boxing of the sports represented at the Olympic games.

Rakhimov has said that he is ready to leave his post, if there is a risk of eliminating Boxing from the Olympic games. Whether this will be enough to know in the near future.

In the meantime, the Congress approved the decision to change weight classes in the program of Summer Olympic games of 2020, which will be held in Tokyo (Japan).

In the men’s Boxing tournament awards will be played not in ten, and in eight weight categories up to 52 kg, 57 kg, 63 kg, 69 kg, 75 kg, 81 kg, 91 kg and over 91 kg. At the same time it increased the number of weight categories for women (from three to five), and at the Olympic games-2020 wrestling for reward they will go in the categories to 51 kg, 57 kg, 60 kg, 69 kg and 75 kg.
