Почти каждый четвертый украинец допускает насилие и пытки в полиции

In Ukraine, a growing number of people who admit to illegal violence in the police

Last year, the percentage of Ukrainians, which under certain conditions allow the use of torture and unlawful violence in the police, amounted to 18.5%.

The percentage of Ukrainians, which under certain conditions allow the use of torture and unlawful violence in the police, continues to grow gradually. This was announced by Director of Kharkiv Institute for social research Dennis Kobin at a press conference on Monday, January 15, writes Interfax-Ukraine.

“Dangerous trend, in our opinion, is the fact that the society again began to gradually increase the number of people who under certain circumstances allow illegal violence in the police. Now there are almost a quarter (24.4 per cent)”, – he said.

Kobzin noted that the increase in the number of people committing illegal violence in the police, was first recorded in 2015. In 2017, this trend continued. If in 2015 the torture and unlawful violence is allowed, but only in extreme cases, 15.6% of respondents, in 2017 their number increased to 18.5%. Also slightly, but increased the number of those who perpetrate violence only against certain groups and categories of people (4.6 per cent).

In addition, the number of those who believe that without illegal violence and torture, the work of the police impossible, practically has not changed.

“This is partly due to the fact that our country is experiencing: the fighting in Ukraine, the instability, our historical memory – a lot of people who gravitate toward the strong hand. All this leads to the fact that the number of such people is growing,” – said Kobzon.

We will remind, earlier it was reported that in Ukraine January 12, entered into force amendments to the law concerning aggravating circumstances in the Commission of a crime.
