Anticyclonic Medvedchuk about the mood in the EU: Europeans want to understand where their money goes

The more often and louder from Kiev there are calls for European officials to expand, to strengthen, to toughen sanctions against Russia, the harder the position of the EU: the Europeans are tired of the “war of sanctions” and a lot more willing to sacrifice the geopolitics of the interests of the national economies. This opinion was expressed by the leader of the Ukrainian choice” Viktor Medvedchuk.

The politician commented on the statement by German foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who reported a substantial increase in the EU, supporters of anti-Russian sanctions and the difficulties in finding a common position on this issue.

“Today, already in anybody does not cause doubts: the Europeans are interested in the resumption of economic cooperation with Moscow. The proof will give a few statements. So, the Prime Minister of Saxony, Stanislaw Tillich is convinced: “Our goal should be as soon as possible to end the economic sanctions against Russia”.

Ex-member of the European Parliament, the Italian journalist Giulietto Chiesa said: “More than 90% of Italians in favour of lifting the sanctions against Russia”. The question for the immediate abolition of anti-Russian sanctions may be rendered to Parliament of the Veneto region (Italy) in may this year.

“The last few years has proved that the sanctions have not yielded any of the desired results. And, unfortunately, they struck a significant blow to the agricultural sector. I hope, therefore, that after the expiration of their term at the end of June, we will be able to reach an agreement on partnership with Russia”, ― said the member of the economic Council of Lower Austria Petra Bohuslav. The fact that anti-Russian sanctions expensive for her country also recognized the Minister of foreign Affairs of Estonia Marina Kaljurand”, — said Medvedchuk.

In his opinion, these examples perfectly illustrate the words of Steinmeier: Europe’s supporters of anti-Russian sanctions every day becoming less.

“Watching the corruption and political scandals in Ukraine, Europeans are increasingly asking: why should they bear huge economic losses if the Ukrainian government, which the whole world provides assistance (primarily financial), does not carry out reforms, not fight corruption, not trying to find a constructive position to resolve the conflict in the Donbas?” — asks the leader of the Ukrainian choice”.

He argues that pragmatic Europeans want to understand where their money goes, to what extent projects are funded and why in Ukraine there is still no results of the reforms.

“The West is tired of the Ukrainian issues and doesn’t trust the Ukrainian politicians. Moreover, the Europeans recognize that cooperation with Russia is strategically important for them. Anticyclonic and since the mood only intensified as the lack of a common platform unprofitable all and seriously hinders communication of the countries ― world leaders, we can say that the degree of political confrontation between the EU and the Russian Federation is reduced,” Medvedchuk said.
