The constitutional court of Ukraine (CCU) today finished consideration of the case on the constitutionality of the “language law” of Kivalov-Kolesnichenko. At the next meeting, which will take place tomorrow, 14 December, the planned interrogation of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Andrei Parubiy, the former Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk. About it on air of TV channel “112 Ukraine” said the correspondent Olga Parashchuk.

“Almost eight o’clock in the constitutional court of Ukraine has considered the petition of the 57 MPs declared unconstitutional “language law” the authors of Kivalov-Kolesnichenko. The next hearing on this case will take place tomorrow. Today, however, heard of people’s deputies of the VII convocation Irina Farion, Andriy Bondarchuk, as well as the representative of the Verkhovna Rada in the constitutional court, Anatoliy Selivanov and experts in jurisprudence and law. Now lasts the oral hearing, and then will be closed. And also in this case plan to interrogate as witnesses of deputies of the VI convocation Andriy Parubiy and Arseniy Yatsenyuk”, – she noted.

Recall that the authors of the submission asking the court to declare the law unconstitutional, since the adoption of the law was violated procedure and the procedure of personal voting, and they were denied the right to “amend, clarify, and resolve errors and contradictions in the text of the bill during the second reading.”

In particular, the MPs claim that during the consideration by the Verkhovna Rada of the draft law were violated the provisions of several articles of the Constitution, parliamentary Rules and the law “On committees of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine”.

According to the authors of the constitutional submission, the provisions of the law of Kivalov-Kolesnichenko create the conditions for the dominance of a regional language (languages) of the state.

As you know, the law “On principles of state language policy” presented by MPs Vadym Kolesnichenko and Serhiy Kivalov, was adopted, signed and entered into force in 2012.

In February 2014, the Verkhovna Rada has cancelled the law about regional languages, however, then acting President Oleksandr Turchynov refused to sign the decision.
