The best athletes in the world

The international Association of athletics federations (IAAF) at a ceremony in Monaco summed up in 2017.

Qatari high jumper Essa Mutas Barsim recognized by the International Association of athletics federations (IAAF) best athlete of 2017. This was announced at a ceremony in Monaco. The award also claimed the Briton Mo Farah and Wade van Niekerk (South Africa).

A retired eight-time Olympic champion Jamaican Sprinter Usain Bolt was awarded a special presidential award.

Ukrainian high jumper Yulia Levchenko claimed the award for rising star of world athletics. Alas, the Ukrainian beat world champion in the triple jump of Yulimar Rojas, representing Venezuela.

Men in this category, the IAAF said Carsten Arholma – Norwegian world champion in run on 400 metres with barriers.
