Ukrainian journalist detained in Belarus for spying

Paul Sharoika allegedly admitted that she is an employee of personnel of the intelligence.

The state security Committee of Belarus said that the arrested in Belarus Ukrainian journalist Paul Sharoika have established a network of agents from among the citizens of Belarus who for a fee were collected for information of an intelligence nature. This was at the briefing said the official representative of KGB of Belarus Dmitry Pomarin, reports Tut.by.

According to the Belarusian KGB, after the arrest Sharoika admitted that he is an employee of personnel of the intelligence and work undercover in the rank of Colonel. He also confirmed that the coordination of its intelligence activities performed by the employee of the Main intelligence Directorate of the defense Ministry Igor Skvortsov, acting under the cover of counselor of the Embassy of Ukraine Belarus

“Based on the experience of his work as the head of the press service of the Main intelligence Directorate of the defense Ministry, to cover it defined the position of reporter of the national Public broadcasting company of Ukraine”, – said the official representative of the Belarusian KGB.

The representative of the Ministry says that Belarus Sharoika have established a network of agents from among the citizens of Belarus, “who for a reward followed their instructions to collect information of the nature of intelligence in the military-political sphere.”

“Against Paul Sharoika a criminal case under article 358 of the criminal code “espionage”, the decision on application of measures of restraint in form of detention,” – said the KGB.

It is alleged that during investigation “received compelling evidence of his illegal activities that harm the national interests of Belarus, and during a search discovered Sharoika copies of intelligence reports sent earlier to the Center.”
