In the framework of his working visit on August 25-26, foreign Minister of Belarus Vladimir Makei held working meetings with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, Vice Prime Minister – Minister of regional development, construction and housing and communal services of Ukraine Gennadiy Zubko, Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavel Klimkin.

This was reported by the press service of the Belarusian foreign Ministry.

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko thanked the Belarusian side for the excellent organization of the Minsk talks on settling situation in Eastern Ukraine”. Stressed that the Minsk agreements are the only basis for a peaceful settlement of the conflict. For his part, Mackay has assured of the readiness of Belarus to continue to do everything possible for peace in the brotherly Ukraine.

At the meeting with President of Ukraine discussed the issues of strengthening political dialogue, the elimination of artificial barriers in mutual trade. Separately, the prospects for further normalization of Belarus ‘ relations with the EU and the United States with the assistance of Ukraine. The meeting also stressed the importance of expanding humanitarian cooperation, the study of the Belarusian language in Ukraine and Ukrainian in Belarus. The sides agreed to intensify the process of demarcation of the Belarusian-Ukrainian state border.

Mackay gave the President of Ukraine a gift of the Belarusian head of state on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the independence of Ukraine, “Slutsky belt” (part of the male costume of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. It was considered a sign of noble origin and pointed to the well-being of the owner).

Klimkin said that the two countries have much in common, what determines the “common vision of the future”, stressed the importance of further development of Belarusian-Ukrainian cooperation. In turn, Mackay stressed that building the bilateral relationship with Ukraine, Belarus will follow its national interests”.

We will remind, Poroshenko discussed with the head of the foreign Ministry of Belarus the issues of economic cooperation between the two countries.
