In the Finnish town Inkoo, construction began on the Finnish-Estonian gas pipeline called the Baltic connector. According to Yle, this is the first in Finland, the pipeline, which will run along the seabed. The project aims to reduce dependence on Russian gas.

The construction of the pipeline will end in 2020. At the same time, the Finnish gas market is opened to competition.

The cost of construction of the pipeline is 250 million euros. The European Union will allocate for the construction of 75% of the total amount of the project.

The pipeline Baltic connector will consist of three sections: the pipeline will cover 22 km of the Finnish coast, 80 km seabed and about 50 km of the Estonian coast.

Recently Azerbaijan has launched the southern gas corridor.
