“But from the beginning of the armed aggression and occupation by Russia of the territory of our state, at the initiative of the Ministry of foreign Affairs initiated the process of inventory of the legal framework, which is still ongoing. To date, the Ukrainian side received the decision on termination or suspension 48 bilateral agreements and programs with Russia. We performed all procedures and made the decision on the termination of these agreements. However, the decision has been made, but termination of agreements is a long process,” said Zelenko.
The MFA representative noted that on behalf of the President, the Ministry continues a thorough review of the legal framework with the Russian Federation.
“As of today there are 314 agreements with the Russian Federation… before the Ministry of foreign Affairs is more than 43 agreements, which are subject to denunciation,” said Zelenko.
She also added that the termination of the agreement on friendship and cooperation with Russia will not affect the obligations of the Russian Federation under international law.
“That is, Russia and Ukraine retain the right and obligation to perform the contract arising during the period of its validity. This means that Ukraine will demand from Russia of responsibility for the violation of the Treaty. In particular, to restore the territorial integrity of Ukraine and to reimburse those losses that were caused by his violation. Breach of contract on the part of the Russian Federation remain violations”, – said Zelenko.
Note, the Ukrainian foreign Ministry is considering the possibility of denunciation of the Agreement with Russia on the Azov sea, signed in 2003, but the document has not yet exhausted itself in the actions against Russia in international courts.
