In the framework of the project of international technical assistance representatives of the government of Norway has transferred to the Zhytomyr border detachment detection equipment for nuclear materials and radioactive substances. About it reported in a press-service of boundary Department on Wednesday, 5 December.

The resulting devices allow to detect special nuclear materials, radioactive substances, industrial, medical, and other materials that can be sources of ionizing radiation. Devices give an alarm in case of detecting sources of neutron and gamma radiation, alpha, beta contamination, and also allow to carry out spectral analysis of the source of the contamination and its identification.

Border guards have received dosimeters, spectrometers, protective suits, gas masks and other equipment totaling more than 6.5 million UAH.

“This equipment will allow the defenders of the borders is mandatory to verify, with entry and exit from Ukraine of persons, vehicles and cargo for the presence of prohibited materials. It is also part of the equipment of the border guards during their stay in the contaminated area affected by the Chernobyl accident”, – reported in Department.

Earlier the chief of the state border service of Ukraine Petro Cigital asked the leadership of the border guard agencies of the countries which Ukraine borders in the Western sector, to strengthen the border regime.
