Boxing: Ukrainian lost to the Russian on points

Our heavyweight Rudenko fought 12 rounds with a neck injury.

Moscow hosted a Boxing match for the vacant WBO International and WBA Inter-Continental heavyweight title between Ukrainian Andriy Rudenko and Russian Alexander Povetkin. Our boxer lost on points, UKRINFORM reported.

Ukrainian in the first round was injured – a neck spasm. Damage Rudenko spent the entire 12-round bout. By unanimous decision (120:109, 120:108, 120:108) the victory went to Alexander Povetkin.

Note that this was the first battle the Russians after the disqualification for doping.

The representative of the Ukrainian boxer Andriy Rudenko, Vladislav Yeliseyev has explained the result of the battle by a combination of factors. “Andrei had a spasm, he said during the fight. I do not want to look for any excuses, because Alexander was stronger, this spasm was not a key factor. Yeah, maybe somehow changed the picture, the mood. Not all of us turned out, although we carefully prepared for Povetkin. We’re disappointed with the result.

Health Rudenko’s fine, but we worried in the first round. It understood that in the case of stopping a fight no one would win. We are pleased that the fight lasted all 12 rounds after this embarrassment. Our team would not stop the fight.

We would like a rematch, but it all depends on team Povetkin. If they want to, then we will be ready, better get ready,” said Elisha.
