Boyko: Rename – a private affair of the locals

Бойко: Переименование - личное дело местных жителей

Urban residents should make the decision about the renaming, said Boyko

Renaming distract people from the real issues, says MP.

Renaming settlements authorities to distract people from the real problems in the economy. This was stated by Chairman of the parliamentary faction of the Opposition bloc Yuriy Boyko in the Verkhovna Rada.

According to policy, a renaming of settlements is a personal affair urban residents. “We believe that only residents of the city can make decisions, as to be called their settlement”, – said Boyko.

The politician claims that by changing the names of cities, authorities are trying to divert attention from the real economic problems and the impoverishment of Ukrainians.

“The residents of Dnepropetrovsk and Dneprodzerzhinsk oppose the renaming of their cities. Moreover, today there are many other urgent problems. People primarily concerned about the issues of tariffs, food prices, salaries and jobs, and the Parliament is engaged in purely political activities,” – said the MP.

According to Boyko, the extremely low level of confidence in the Verkhovna Rada is due to the fact that the Parliament lives “his life, while the society is trying to survive on their own”.

As reported, the Verkhovna Rada was renamed Dnepropetrovsk and Dneprodzerzhinsk, as well as 9 districts, 6 towns and 284 villages and settlements in Ukraine.
