Bulgaria has paid Russia a debt for Belene NPP

Болгария выплатила России долг за АЭС Белене

The parties disagreed about the cost of the project.

Bulgaria Rosatom has paid the debt for Belene NPP. Total payment amounted to 601,6 million euros, according to the website of the Russian company Atomstroyexport.

The agreement on construction of Belene NPP with two power units of 1000 MW each was signed with Rosatom in 2006, however, the General construction contract was never concluded.

The parties disagreed about the cost of the project: Atomstroyexport estimated cost 6.3 billion euros, but the Bulgarian experts suspect that the price is significantly inflated.

In March 2012 Bulgaria decided to abandon nuclear power plant construction. At that time, Russian companies have already produced the first set of equipment for the station.

Rosatom presented the customer of construction – NEK Bulgaria – a lawsuit for 1 billion euros. In June of this year the Arbitration court of the international chamber of Commerce in Geneva ruled in favor of Atomstroyexport in a dispute with NEK, by agreeing to compensate the damage in amount of 620 million euros, then the amount has been adjusted to 601,6 million euros.

As reported Корреспондент.net, the Bulgarian government decided on the site of Belene NPP to build a gas processing plant.

Earlier, Vietnam decided not to build a nuclear power plant with Russian assistance. The authorities believe that the urgent need in the construction of the station is no more.
