Case OPAL: Gazprom threatened with fines

Дело OPAL: Газпрому грозят штрафами

Gazprom can’t use the full power of the OPAL pipeline

Transit capacity of Gazprom’s pipeline OPAL will limit September 14. The Russian company has alternative possibilities, I believe in Germany.

The German regulator banned the Russian Gazprom after the decision of the court of justice to use additional capacities of the OPAL gas pipeline to transport gas, even if they have already been booked. This is stated in the statement of the Federal network Agency of Germany on Friday, September 13.

“According to the Federal network Agency, Gazprom has alternative transport routes and delivery points in order to fulfil its obligations towards the European Union”, – said in a statement.

The regulator also notes that in case of violation by the companies of the decision rendered by the court, the Federal Agency can impose fines.

In turn, the company OPAL Gastransport GmbH launched the measures necessary for the implementation of decisions of the regulator.

“OPAL Gastransport GmbH launched the necessary measures to implement the decision of the Federal network Agency and to restrict the sale and use of regulated partially open transit capacity to the nearest possible time”, – said in a statement.

As noted, the company will restrict access to facilities “subject to technical requirements and in close coordination with network operators to 14 Sep, 06:00 PM”.

According to the Agency Interfax, the day after the announcement, the OPAL was used on 95%, and the pipe and the flow – on 104%, meaning that its use exceeded the nominal capacity.

As you know, after the court decision Gazprom retained the right to use 50% of the OPAL.

In Poland believe that the court’s decision on the OPAL should increase the pumping of gas through Ukraine by 12.5 billion cubic meters.
