Case OPAL: in Poland, evaluated the effect for Ukraine

Дело OPAL: в Польше оценили эффект для Украины

Ukraine’s position at negotiations with Russia on gas will improve, said the head of the Polish energy company PGNiG Piotr Wozniak.

The decision of the European court on the OPAL gas pipeline should increase the pumping of gas through Ukraine by 12.5 billion cubic meters. This was stated by the head of the Polish energy company PGNiG Piotr Wozniak, TASS reported on Tuesday, September 10.

According to him, running through the Ukraine pipeline has unused capacity.

“This changes the negotiating position of Ukraine, which will improve greatly,” said Wozniak, noting that the volume of gas pumped through Ukraine “should rise at least 12.5 billion cubic meters”.

Earlier Tuesday, the European court annulled the decision of the European Commission from 2016, which Russia’s Gazprom was able to fully utilize the capacity of the OPAL pipeline. Such a verdict means that Gazprom will not be able to abandon the gas transit through the territory of Ukraine.

Before it became known that the gas negotiations between Ukraine and Russia will take place on September 19.
