The camp of the nationalists in Ukraine

In Western Ukraine, American journalists discovered the camp of the nationalists, where children, mostly teenagers, are taught to defend their country from the Russians and to spread nationalist ideology.

“As children are taught to kill in the Ukrainian nationalist camp” is an article by an American news Agency The Associated Press about a summer camp for children, organized by the Ukrainian nationalist organization Sokol.

Falcon is positioning itself as a youth military sports organization. On its website says that it has existed since 1894 in the late 1930s it was banned by the Bolsheviks, and in 2006 revived the right young city, loyal to the Freedom party. The game is a major partner of the Falcon.

Cell organization has in all areas of the country. The main direction of activity is the national — Patriotic education of youth. Falcon holds 16 sports and educational camps for children in different areas, and its activists read Patriotic lectures in schools.

Than fighting

Most of the inmates of the camp, which was visited by journalists of AP, – Teens, but there are children not older than eight years.

The camp, which is located in the forest, teaching children to defend their country from the Russians and their supporters and to spread nationalist ideology.

“We never aim the gun at people”, — quotes Agency Yuri Cherkashin, nicknamed “the Black”, who is the head of a Falcon.

“But we do not believe that people separatists, little green men, invaders from Moscow. Therefore, we can and should target them,” he explains.

According to Cherkashin, the Ukrainian youth should be taught nationalist ideas to enable it to counteract Vladimir Putin’s Russia, as well as the challenges that “can destroy” European civilisation. One such challenge, in his opinion, is the LGBT community.

Black Cherkashin headed Falcon with 2014. In June of the same year, Cherkashin served in the ATO in the battalion of the interior Ministry Sich, formed from members of Freedom. In 2015, was wounded near the Donetsk airport, participated in the defense of the village of Sands.

Difficult conditions

Life in the camp difficult for many children, the newspaper notes.

The children were woken in the middle of the night and the explosions of flashbang. Running out of their tents, “to soldiers” it was difficult to keep in the hands of the AK-47, which in some cases was almost the same size as themselves. They had to carry a heavy rifle all day, and one of the girls fell in tears from exhaustion.

18-year-old Michael is the oldest of the participants stated that the training was necessary.

“At any time in our country something may go wrong and you need to be ready for this,” he said. “That’s why I came to this camp to learn how to protect themselves and their families.”

Some teenagers get bored in lectures, others are listening. On break one of the students pulls out a guitar and plays a nationalist March. The guitar is a sticker with the image of flying into mosque bombs and the words: White Europe is our goal.

These camps supports the Ukrainian government, journalists said. This year, the Ministry of youth and sports has allocated 4 million UAH on financing some organized nationalist youth camps. The official goal of the national-Patriotic education.

Than the famous Falcon

Two activists of a Falcon — the former head of the Kamianets-Podilskyi cell and a volunteer battalion Sich Igor Gumenyuk and his friend Sergey Pinch — are now under trial on charges in the attack at Parliament building on 31 August 2015.

Then, because of the explosion of a grenade during a rally killed four national guardsmen, another 142 people were injured.
