Coal reserves in Ukraine are lower than last year by 20%

Compared to previous data of 30 July coal stocks increased by 0.4% or 7.7 thousand tons.

Coal stocks in warehouses of thermal power plants and CHP plants, as on August 14 stood at 1.68 million tonnes. It is 420 thousand tons, or 20.2% lower than a year ago, reports Interfax-Ukraine with reference to data of the Ministry on Wednesday, August 15.

The situation with the stockpiling of natural gas is much better: on the 14th of August they had reached 13.5 billion cubic meters, which is only 0.3 billion cubic meters, or 2.2 per cent less than on August 14 last year.

In addition, oil reserves in the warehouses of power plants less than last year by 37.7 percent and amounted to 38 thousand tons.

Compared to previous data of 30 July coal stocks increased by 0.4% or 7.7 thousand tons, gas – by 6.3%, or 0.8 billion cubic meters, while fuel oil fell by 0.5%, or 0.2 thousand tonnes.

The Ministry also reported that coal production in Ukraine for the first 13 days of August 2018 increased by 6.6% compared to the same period of 2017 to 1.19 million tons, natural gas – by 1.9%, to 0,685 billion cubic meters, while electricity production decreased by 1.4% to 5.15 billion kWh, of which 59% was provided by nuclear power plants, 30% – TES.

We will remind, as of 23 July, the coal reserves in Ukraine totaled 1.35 million tons, which is almost 40% less than on 24 July 2017 2.2 million tonnes.

As reported, in late July, the Cabinet approved the plan of measures on preparation for the heating period. According to the document, the gas reserves in underground storage facilities by 1 November 2018 should amount to 17 billion cubic meters of coal, 2.6 million tonnes (including anthracite brands – 1 million tons, and gas and 1.6 million tonnes) and fuel oil 130 tons.
