Crimea turns into a “hot spot” – Yelchenko

Крым превращается в "горячую точку" - Ельченко

Ukraine’s permanent representative at the UN said that the Crimea begins to acquire signs of “hot spots”

The Peninsula becomes a “hot spot” not only in the sense that it illegally annexed, but that is a threat to European security, said the permanent representative of Ukraine to the UN.

Crimea begins to acquire signs of “hot spots” and this could push members of the UN for more action. This statement on Saturday, March 17, in an interview with Voice of America made by the permanent representative of Ukraine to the United Nations Volodymyr Yelchenko, Ukrainian Pravda wrote.

According to him, the Peninsula becomes a “hot spot” not only in the sense that it illegally annexed, but that poses a threat to European security, not only in the Black sea region, but much wider.

And it could push the UN for more action.

“This might be the decision of the UN General Assembly, and we are such solutions to cook. We will not be limited to, whether Ukraine in the security Council or not. There are many other UN bodies where matters of the Crimea is different – and you need to raise,” – said Yelchenko.

The Ambassador also added that sanctions against Russia will only increase, and the Russian “elections” in Crimea only “adds confidence to those countries that these sanctions imposed or will impose”.

We will remind, earlier Ukraine has sent to the UN Secretary General, the Chairman of the security Council and to all delegations of member countries of an official letter, which States that the conduct of the Russian presidential elections in the annexed Crimea violates the UN Charter.
