The last photos of Curiosity Rover show how Mars changed its appearance in the last three billion years, reports NASA.

The Rover was able to climb onto one of the most dangerous peaks of mount sharp – Naukluft plateau. There he took panoramic photos of the red planet.

Naukluft is interesting in that its lower bounds are rocks formed in the “wet” period of life of Mars, and the plateau formed by the weathering of rocks significantly later, when the planet has already lost their water supplies and most part of the atmosphere. These processes lasted for the last 3-3,5 billion years.

Studying this plateau, scientists hope to better understand how Mars transformed from a “twin” of the Earth into a lifeless desert.

Clay between “wet” and “dry” periods in the geological life of the planet can answer the question of how long the waters of Mars remained capable of generating germs and maintain their existence.
