Churyumov died suddenly at the age of 79 years.

Famous Ukrainian astronomer Klim Churyumov, died Saturday, October 15, at the age of 79 years. This was reported by his granddaughter Maria Muller on his page in Facebook.

“You were such a scientist-rock star, my biggest inspiration and my example. We all miss you, grandpa! Rest in peace. The cosmos is all that is, or was, or ever will be”, – she wrote.

According to the Deputy Director of the Kiev planetarium Helena Derdowski, astronomer died on the way to Kharkov, where he went on business. She added that the death came suddenly.

Churyumov became world famous thanks to the discovery of the comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko in 1969, and of the comet Churyumov-Solodovnikov. In addition, he was Director of the Kiev planetarium and President of the Ukrainian society of Amateur astronomers.

As reported Корреспондент.net, 2 March 2004 from Kourou was launched into space by the European space probe Rosetta. On 30 September the Rosetta probe collided with comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko, which was studied for 12 years. Stream last moments of the life of the probe was conducted by the European space Agency.
