German automaker Volkswagen will spend 2.1 billion canadian dollars (1.6 billion U.S. dollars) in connection with diesel scandal in Canada, says CTV News.

The money will be spent on the redemption or elimination of violations in 105 thousand cars with an engine capacity of 2 liters, which used software Senigallia emissions of harmful substances.

Volkswagen customers will be able to receive compensation in the amount of 5,1 thousand to 8 thousand canadian dollars for the car.

It is expected that Canada will become Volkswagen’s second after the United States market, in terms of the cost of managing the consequences of diesel scandal.

The agreement must be approved by courts in Ontario and Quebec until 31 March 2017.

Volkswagen was obliged to withdraw in the U.S. almost half a million vehicles made from 2009 to 2015. The fake test results exhaust emissions has touched 11 million cars with diesel engines around the world.
