Donbass peacekeepers are needed, and not bodyguards of the OSCE – Klimkin

Донбассу нужны миротворцы, а не телохранители ОБСЕ – Климкин

Klimkin commented on the Russian proposal

Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said that the Donbas must be placed full-fledged UN peacekeeping mission, and no security for the OSCE monitors.

In the occupied territory of Donbass it is necessary to organize a full-fledged peacekeeping mission, not the protection of observers of the Special OSCE monitoring mission, as proposed by Russia. On this day, January 30, said the Minister of foreign Affairs Pavlo Klimkin, reports Interfax-Ukraine.

“I hope that recent events, including, on the American side, too, so to speak, will help Moscow to see that her suggestions about the bodyguards for the SMM, the OSCE does not make any sense, and we need a real peacekeeping mission. You need to give SMM to work quietly and not disturb, and you need to give the peacekeepers, but the real peacekeepers, to sort out control of the situation in the occupied territories”, – said Klimkin.

He also noted that he was in constant touch with American partners multiple times and spoke with US special envoy in Ukraine with Kurt Volker, before his recent meeting with Russian presidential aide Vladislav Surkov, and after the meeting.

“Unfortunately, during their meeting was not achieved any result, but we will consistently exert pressure with the aim of implementation logic of the road map” – said Klimkin.

We will remind, the special representative of the United States Ukraine Kurt Volker and assistant to the President of Russia Vladislav Surkov discussed at a meeting in Dubai on 26 January, the law on the reintegration of Donbass, however, a position no closer.
