Filaret about the war in Donbass: It is a punishment for the godlessness

Филарет о войне Донбассе: Это наказание за безбожие

The head of the UOC-KP spoke about his vision of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine.

The population of the Eastern regions of Ukraine are suffering because there are much more atheists than in the Western region. The head of the UOC-KP, Patriarch Filaret said in an interview with an Apostrophe.

“Today, people suffer more in the East of Ukraine, not the West. Why? Because there are atheists much more than in the West. It is home to the so-called proletariat, the people who were brought up in atheism and that atheism is stored. In the Donbas lived 7.5 million, and seemingly all the churches should be filled, but they are almost empty,” explained the head of the Kyiv Patriarchate the cause of the conflict in the Donbas.

He noted that “the experience and surveys show that in the East more atheists than believers.” Filaret said that he was born and raised in the Donbass. And in childhood “was the same”. “But when the war came (world, ed), then through suffering, many turned to God, temples were opened, people asked for help and the Lord helped to repel the aggressor and to win that war”.

Filaret also added that the war in the Donbas – it is a punishment for godlessness and other sins. “If they do not repent and turn to God, their suffering will continue”, – said the head of the Kyivan Patriarchate.

We will remind, earlier it was reported that the UOC-KP massively selling humanitarian aid for Donbass.
