Ukraine in 2009 and 2019

It all started with the American journalist Damon lane, 11 January posted on his page in Facebook collage of my avatars for 2009 and 2019 with signature How Hard Did You Hit Aging Challenge (How much age affected you).

Users from around the world picked up the idea. Initially, they compared his photos with images from ten years ago, signing posts with the hashtag #2009vs2019, #2009vs2019challenge or #10yearchallenge.

Soon in the framework of the challenge began to compare everything that has changed or remained the same for ten years: exchange rate, presidents, characters, popular films, urbanization, lifestyle and so on.

Just a few days on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, a host of publications of this kind. Ukrainians also decided not to lag behind and actively put different photos.

Part in the flashmob also took Naftogaz amid the gas dispute with Russia. Recall that 2009 was the beginning of the gas crisis between Kiev and Moscow.

1 January 2009 the Russian monopolist Gazprom fully stopped gas supplies to Ukraine because of a dispute over debt and prices. January 19 the Ukrainian and Russian premiers Yulia Tymoshenko and Vladimir Putin signed an agreement for ten years, which was to resolve the dispute.

Ten years ago, Ukraine suffered the consequences of the global financial crisis. In the fall of 2008 the dollar went up from $ 4.6 hryvnia, reaching in some days marks 10-11 hryvnia for one dollar.

To new 2009 the rate dropped to the level of 7.5-7.7 hryvnia to the dollar. And within a year left on a mark eight hryvnia, which lasted until 2014.

In 2009, the number of large banks are unable to survive the crisis. Temporary administration was introduced in the banks Nadra, Rodovid, Ukrgazbank, Ukrprombank, and others. Ukrainians for the first time faced with restrictions on operations with own funds.

Some financial institutions have subsequently been declared bankrupt, and some were purchased by the state. For example, Ukrgasbank, which still operates today.

Amid soaring dollar mortgage holders could not pay foreign currency loans and banks had to restructure loans. If the client is unable to pay off the debts, the debt transferred to collectors.

Tymoshenko’s government has not fulfilled many of the requirements of the International monetary Fund and in the fall of 2009, the IMF froze the programme to stabilize the political situation in Ukraine.

New rules and machinations. Why are bills so grown up

By the way, in 2009 the authorities also had to go to higher rates. In Kiev, the heating rate was set at 1.6 hryvnia per square meter for heating pay for the whole year, whereas now only in the heating period. Hot water was worth 8.8 per cubic meter, a cold water – 2,67 hryvnia.
