Professor Karen Uhlenbeck got Belevsky award-2019
The most prestigious award in mathematics in 2019 went to the American girl Karen Uhlenbeck.
In Oslo hosted the ceremony of awarding Belevskoe prize in mathematics. For the first time in history the award went to a woman. Information appeared on the official website of The Abel prize.
The award was handed over by the king of Norway Harald V in the hall of ceremonies, University of Oslo. In 2019, the award went to an American Professor of the University of Texas at Austin Karen Uhlenbeck.
It is reported that Uhlenbeck became the first woman to receive this award. She is a mathematician noted that it “was among the first generation of women for whom the studies were available.”
Professor Uhlenbeck received the award for “achievements in the field of geometric partial differential equations, gauge theory and integrable systems”.
