The main military Prosecutor’s office filed indictments in the trial for five current and former officials of the Ministry and two employees of a commercial enterprise. They are suspected in embezzlement of state funds in the procurement of helmets and body armor in 2014-2015. This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General.

“Five former and current heads of the Department of public procurement and delivery of material resources of the Ministry of defense of Ukraine reported on suspicion of committing crimes under part 2 St. 367 (negligence) and part 2 of article 425 (negligent attitude to military service) of the Criminal code of Ukraine”, – reported in GPU.

The prosecutors also said that officials signed a number of agreements with commercial enterprises for the supply of helmets and bullet-proof vests for the Ukrainian army for the price with the value added tax, although, according to law, for the period of the antiterrorist operation, these products are exempt from VAT.

“On the basis of their signed payment orders of the Ministry of defence during the 2014-2015 illegally paid to the account of the supplier in total UAH 32.6 million in the form of VAT. In addition, supplementary agreements to separate such contracts were arbitrarily increased the price of put helmets and body armor, which led to unnecessary costs to the Ministry for a total sum more than 1,5 million UAH”, – said the press service.

Also in the framework of criminal proceedings it is declared suspicion to the Director and chief accountant of the supplier committing a crime under part 5 of article 191 of the Criminal code (misappropriation of another’s property by abuse of official position in especially large sizes).
