American carmaker Ford plans to cut five thousand jobs in Germany. This step is part of a announced in January, the European program of the group restructuring, said Ford spokesman Friday, March 15. In a letter to the group’s management Board staff notes that this measure will allow to save at least $ 500 million (in equivalent to 441 million euros).

In Germany, the number of employees of the Ford is 24 thousand people, most of them work in Cologne. According to the newspaper Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, the company intends to provide compensation in case of dismissal of employees up to 49 years and offer early retirement to employees over 50 years old.

As reported, automakers Volkswagen AG and Ford Motor Company have formed an Alliance for manufacturing commercial vehicles and mid-size pickups.
