МИД требует отменить военный призыв в Крыму

Crimeans massively call in the Russian army

The Russian army has sent more than 8000 of the Crimean people.

The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine expresses its protest in connection with an appeal to Russia for military service of citizens of Ukraine residing on the territory annexed Crimea. This was reported on the official website of the Ministry.

“According to the published data of the Ministry of defence of the Russian Federation, more than 800 people – residents of the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea sent to the place of passage of military service. In autumn 2017, the state plans to direct the occupant from temporarily occupied territory of about 2,000 people in the manning of the armed forces of the Russian Federation, including outside of the Crimea”, – said in a statement.

The office recalls that the UN General Assembly resolution of 19 December 2016 urged Moscow to fulfil its obligations under international humanitarian law, according to which the aggressor state is prohibited to force persons under protection to serve in its armed or auxiliary forces, and it is also prohibited to exert pressure and conduct propaganda in favor of voluntary enlistment.

In addition, the adopted 14 November 2017 to the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly the draft updated resolution on the situation of human rights in Crimea urges the Russian Federation to cease the practice of forcing residents of the Crimea to serve in the armed or auxiliary forces of the Russian Federation, including using pressure or propaganda.

“Ukraine’s foreign Ministry demands from the Russian Federation to reverse its illegal decision on conscription for military service in the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol (Ukraine), to eliminate all resulting consequences, to ensure the unconditional fulfillment of its international obligations as a state-occupier, as well as to fully implement resolutions of the UN,” added the Ministry.

We will remind, the Ukrainian foreign Ministry has repeatedly called on Russia to end its illegal conscription of Ukrainian citizens in the Crimea.
