Gazprom: Transit through Ukraine will be reduced 10 times

Газпром: Транзит через Украину снизится в 10 раз

Gas monopoly is not going to cooperate with Ukraine on the terms that were defined by results of consideration of the claim in the Stockholm arbitration.

After start of gas pipeline Nord stream-2 and Nord stream, the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine will fall 10 times. This was stated by the Chairman of the Board of Gazprom, Alexei Miller, Interfax reported on Tuesday, April 3.

According to him, we are not talking about a complete cessation of gas transit through the territory of Ukraine

“Because there’s a neighboring state, there are regions that are on the border with Ukraine from Europe and without a doubt, delivery to these regions of Europe will be carried out in transit through the territory of Ukraine. Another thing is that the amounts that will be without a doubt less significant. Apparently, speech can go about 10-15 billion cubic meters of gas a year,” Miller said.

To the question about the conditions for future cooperation with Ukraine, Miller said: “Have to negotiate. In any case, these are not the conditions that we obtained in the framework of the lawsuit in the Stockholm arbitration court”.

Recall that by the end of 2017 through the Ukrainian gas transportation system in Europe was set a record volume of gas in the last eight years of 93.5 billion cubic meters, and in 2016 – 82 billion cubic meters.

In late February, ended years of dispute between Naftogaz and Gazprom in the Stockholm arbitration court, which ordered the Russian company to pay Naftogaz $4.63 billion for failure to supply the agreed volumes of gas for transit. According to the results of two arbitration of disputes between companies on supply and transit of gas, Gazprom has to pay NAC $2.56 billion
